Biography

Janice Gatty has served on the faculty at Smith College since 1977. She teaches courses for beginning learners in human development and graduate courses in early development of deaf and hard-of-hearing children and family-centered intervention.

Gatty is co-author (with Arthur Boothroyd) of The Deaf Child in a Hearing Family: Nurturing Development. Her publications also include articles and book chapters on perceptual development, play in young children, the effects of technology on deaf and hard-of-hearing children and their families, and family-centered early intervention. Gatty is also the director of Child and Family Services at the Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech.
