Every summer, you’ll come together with more than 375 people of many gender identities and expressions, all ages, and a variety of personal and professional backgrounds. What they have in common is a desire to impact lives for the better.
Each summer offers a multitude of opportunities to connect and collaborate—and not just in the classroom. At Smith, we have a wide variety of issue-centered and affinity-based student organizations that can give you a chance to explore your interests with people as fiercely committed to social justice as you are.
From September to April, you'll work in your field internship—the heart of the Smith M.S.W. program. You'll have the support of an on-site supervisor and a faculty field adviser who will come to your location. This experience also gives you the opportunity to see what it's like to live as a professional social work—not just as a student. You'll live in the community, meet new friends (or spend time with existing ones), and explore a new location—or delve more deeply into a familiar one.
During field internships, you may continue to connect with student organizations online or you may have the opportunity to build connections with our Alumni Network. In addition, a number of resources are available to you year-round, including library services—even if you're all the way across the country.
